CropLife Ghana Participants
On Thursday, October 10, 2019, CropLife Ghana organized a one-day Training of Trainers (ToT) for 23 representatives of member companies of CropLife Ghana, on identifying and handling issues of Fall Army Worm (FAW). The training took place at the CropLife Ghana Secretariat, in Dzorwulu, Accra from 9am to 4pm.
The goal and objective of the training is to enable all stakeholders in Ghana to be well informed in the effective and efficient ways of identifying, tackling and eradicating FAW in farms through the use of only approved and registered agrochemicals and application of tried and tested IPM principles.
Amongst some of the challenges faced in Ghana with regards to the FAW include the following:
¬ A host of unregistered and unapproved agrochemicals available for application on FAW
¬ Unskilled sprayers being used to apply pesticides
¬ Lack of coordination between regulatory agencies in provision of relevant information to farmers
¬ Farmers spraying farms without appropriate protection
¬ Farmers unaware of the approved & registered pesticides to apply on FAW
The participants found the training to be very practical, informative and educative which will enhance their work in their respective schedules. The training was facilitated by Mr. Copperfield Banini and Mr. Bob Adjakloe, both CropLife AME Master Trainers.
